The admission portal of three city universities, Jadavpur University(JU), Presidency University and Rabindra Bharati University for admission in undergraduate courses did not open up on Monday.
However, the admission portal of Calcutta University for UG admission in its affiliated colleges kicked off from Monday. JU has announced through a notification that admission process will start from August 14, 2020 while RBU has stated that the process will start from Tuesday.
On July 17, 2020 the Department of State Higher Education had issued a notification starting with the admission process to undergraduate courses in state colleges starting August 10. The admission will be strictly in online mode and at the time of admission, no student should appear physically.
"Our Arts and Science admission window will open from August 14, 2020. The delay occurred whilst integrating the online admission mode," a senior Jadavpur University official said.
In Jadavpur University (Arts), the total number of UG seats is around 700 while in Science it is around 330.
Last year, the university had conducted entrance tests for admission to UG in subjects such as Bengali, English, Comparative Literature, Philosophy, History, International Relations, Sociology, Economics and Sanskrit. However, JU authorities have decided in the current COVID -19 pandemic situation not to hold any such admission test this year.
Presidency University (PU) also conducts the entrance examination for admission, but in the COVID situation, no such examination could be held. A section of varsity students are bent on holding entry test.
"Our admission committee has not yet finalized the admission procedures, so we have not yet been able to kick off the process," a senior PU official said. Rabindra Bharati University will kick off its entrance window from Tuesday. "Nevertheless, we're not going to be able to admit students in Fine Arts and Visual Arts because these two faculties require admission testing. Now, in the COVID pandemic situation, we're not in a position to hold admission tests. We're still in the dark when we can do the same," said a senior RBU official.
Online admission to the affiliated colleges under Calcutta University in UG mode began from Monday. There are 147 CU-affiliated colleges in the State. Every year more than 1.3 lakh students seek admission to CU undergraduate level.
