New Delhi: M. Srinivas, director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, received an honorary degree from Amity University on Saturday, and Vikas Singh, president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), received an honorary doctor of law degree during the university's three-day convocation ceremony.
At the ceremony, honorary degrees were also given to Maroof Raza, a strategic defence expert, and CP Gurnani, managing director of Tech Mahindra.
Amity University held its 18th convocation ceremony from November 10 to 12, 2022. Over 8,900 students have received their graduation degrees and diplomas during the first two days of the ceremony. Day-one saw 4,438 degrees and diplomas handed to to students while day-two saw a total of 4,490 students receive their graduation degree and diplomas.
Graduates at Amity University's campuses in Noida, Lucknow, Dubai, and Tashkent came from a variety of fields, including finance, travel, tourism, architecture, planning, and design, engineering, and related fields including agriculture and biosciences.
Along with silver, bronze, and gold medals and other honours, the institution also presented "all-rounder achievement" trophies to deserving students.
It stated that "his tireless path is an inspiration for all those who seek social equity, justice, and mass empowerment." The honorary degree was given to Singh at the university convocation. The university confers honorary doctorates on experts in a variety of subjects.
According to the university, Singh was given an honorary degree "for his (Singh's) exceptional vision, deep commitment to delivering all-around justice, highest professionalism, inspirational leadership, and continuous dedicated efforts towards nation building through upholding the sanctity of the law of the land."
Balvinder Shukla, vice chancellor of Amity University in Uttar Pradesh, praised the institution for its groundbreaking achievements during the previous academic year. He stated: "Amity is a leading scientific research and innovation driven University where holistic development of students is of utmost importance. Amity has been rewriting and reshaping the educational sector under the visionary leadership and mentorship of our Founder President, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, with more than 100 value-added programmes, more than 19,000 research papers published, 5,500 books written by its faculty, and more than 300 MoUs signed with leading organisations and institutions across the world. She wished the graduates luck in their future endeavours and encouraged the students to be strong, diligent, and sincere in order to keep the Amity flag flying high.
