Allahabad University (AU) will conduct the Combined Research Entrance Test (CRET) 2020, to provide admission in PhD courses offered at the university, on January 17, 2021, at 14 centres in Prayagraj.
CRET 2020 examination will be held in offline mode in all centres between 11 am to 1.30 PM. Strict COVID 19 prevention guidelines will be maintained during the examination, confirmed Prashant Agarwal, Director of Admission at Allahabad University.
Agrawal added that candidates can download their admit cards for the entrance examination on January 8 from the official website of AU.
Officials explained that a total of 625 seats are available for PhD this year in Allahabad University and its constituent colleges. Out of which, 203 seats are available for different subjects offered in the University itself and the rest of them belong to different colleges. A total of 7,200 candidates have applied for the CRET 2020 examination this year.

Guidelines issued by the Central government to contain the spread of COVID 19 will be implemented before, during, and after the examination to ensure candidates’ safety, said Professor AR Siddiqui, Coordinator of CRET 2020.
He added that all candidates will have to undergo temperature check and must mandatorily wear masks. Similarly, university and college officials will also have to follow the laid out guidelines mandatorily.
Prashant Agarwal further explained that candidates of NET JRF or junior research fellowship winners are eligible for the second round of CRET 2020, which is the interview round without appearing for the written test. However, these applicants must submit the JRF award letter along with their application.
Earlier, NET JRF results were announced late and the CRET 2020 application process was completed by then. It was then decided to give direct access to the JRF applicants in the CRET 2020 Level-2 examination.
The CRET 2020 was earlier announced to be conducted on January 10, 2021, but the same was postponed because the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University also holding its entrance test for research programmes on the same day.
AU had accepted application forms for CRET 2020 from July 29 to September 5, 2020. The last day to submit the application form was then postponed to September 30, 2020.
