On Monday 9 June 2020, Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan urged the Union Ministry of India to provide exam centres for AIIMS entrance examination 2020 within the states.
The letter by CM Vijayan says AIIMS entrance exam is scheduled to be held on June 11, 2020, and a majority of students from Kerala have received exam centres in other states as well.
The request from the Kerala CM came in view of risks associated with inter-state travels during a pandemic situation for COVID-19 in India.
As repeatedly said, travelling distances during the COVID-19 era can be risky, it will increase the chances of community transmission. Also, at a time when social distancing is the norm, authorities cannot set conditions when students will be compelled to travel.
For the All India Institute of Medical Sciences exam, many students from Kerala who opted for Thiruvananthapuram exam centre have instead received it for Tamil Nadu.
The letter also added that as COVID-19 crisis continues to prevail in India, students cannot be compelled to travel to other states for exams.
Further, Kerala CM has requested Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan for an immediate intervention in the matter to allow students to choose their nearest exam centres.
