All About Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) for PGDM

On behalf of XAMI (Xavier Association of Management Institutes), XLRI Jamshedpur successfully conducted XAT 2022 test on January 2, in a single session with a changed pattern.

As the results are out now, XLRI will shortly release the XAT Cut Off 2022 for different XLRI PGDM programs as the institute announces its shortlist on the date of XAT result declaration. The candidates who score around 94 percentile or above in XAT exam, will be considered for flagship PGDM-BM in XLRI.

XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) is a nationwide MBA entrance exam, run on behalf of XAMI (Xavier Association of Management Institutes) administered by XLRI (Xavier Labour Relation Institute) in Jamshedpur.

XLRI has been administering XAT at the national level for the past 70 years to identify the best-qualified candidates for its various programs of management for the PGDM degree.

You need Xavier Aptitude Test grades to get admissions to MBA/PGDM courses in 11 XAMI member institutions, 83 associate institutions, and 600+ additional B-schools. Thus, you can call it one of the most challenging entrance tests.

What is the XAT exam's structure?

The level and variety of questions on the XAT are somewhat demanding, comparable to other top competitive tests. Until 2017, the XAT was conducted entirely on paper. However, XAT has been a computer-based test starting in 2018. The duration is about 190 minutes. The exam has the following sections:

  1. Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
  2. Verbal Ability & Logical/Analytical Reasoning
  3. Decision Making
  4. Essay Writing
  5. General knowledge

The Structure of XAT Exam

You will have 100 MCQs (multiple choice questions) in Xavier Aptitude Test with a single essay topic. The paper is split into two halves.

Part-I consists of the first 3 sections for determining the final result. However, Part-II comprises the GK section and Essay Writing.

Part I has no set time limit for each section, so you'll have to carefully manage the total time (165 minutes). There is a 0.25 negative marking with each wrong response and a 0.10 penalty for every question not performed.

In Part II, however, you have no negative marking. While your GK score does not factor into the final XAT percentage, it is vital in the B-school admissions process. Furthermore, the essay evaluation takes place once the individual gets shortlisted for an interview.

So, to get an admission to one of the prestigious B-schools or to undertake a PGDM course from a reputable institution, your scores matter.

When does the XAT exam take place?

You take the XAT exam during the first week of January in a single sitting on a given day. The comprehensive announcement will be released during August-September (xatonline.in). The notification will tell you relevant dates, application fees, MBA/PGP courses, and other vital information.
