The Master's in Philosophy of Law at Leiden University explores the philosophical foundations of law. Taught by Leiden University's internationally-acclaimed faculty, this programme explores key issues in relation to the institution of law and its role in society, including: Why do certain rules become law? What is the proper method for determining a law? What sorts of reasoning do legal practitioners use when they apply the law to a case? Normative questions about good law are also examined. What is the rule of law? Why is it so desirable? Do we have a (moral) duty to obey the law? This intellectually-rigorous programme attracts talented and motivated students.
