• This Master’s is offered jointly by VU Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam – combining their expertise in Archaeology, Ancient History, and Classics in the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA). This merging of specializations encourages collaboration and extends the options when it comes to the supervision of students Master’s thesis. Not only is the teaching strongly related to the research expertise of the staff, but students will also be a partner in research during your studies.
  • The Master’s in Archaeology gives students a world-class education in the archaeology of Europe and the adjacent Mediterranean area. students will obtain advanced skills that enable them to define relevant research questions, conduct independent research, and report their findings according to the highest professional standards.
  • If students decide to follow the Mediterranean Archaeology track, students will focus more on the history of the ancient Mediterranean world – from the Bronze Age until the Early Modern Period.
  • Students will specialise in Mediterranean Archaeology during the research labs, which are separate for each track. With the explicit aim of developing student's knowledge in their chosen area of specialization, these tutorials are related to research projects by ACASA Archaeology staff members who are experts in Mediterranean Archaeology. Students' individual research assignments and Master’s thesis may also be on a topic of their choice within their area of specialization.
