Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell (Maha CET) organises counselling rounds for MHT CET qualified as well as JEE Main qualified candidates for admission into prestigious engineering colleges in Maharashtra state. The counselling process i.e. registration, fee payment, choice-filling, seat allotment, and reporting is similar for candidates who have qualified for either of the entrance exams- JEE Main 2023 or MHT CET 2023.

MHT CET CAP through JEE Main 2023: Candidates who qualify JEE Main 2023 are going to be eligible to participate in MHT CET 2023 Counselling for the AI (All India) seats. They will have to register for the same at the official MHT CET 2023 website - mahacet.org. The counselling process is expected to start after the declaration of the result for MHT CET 2023 i.e. tentatively by the 1st week of July 2023.
- Candidates who score higher than the qualifying JEE Main 2023 Cut Off can apply for MHT CET 2023 Counselling.
- Candidates residing in Maharashtra as well as in other states of the country are allowed to participate in the counselling process. However, a certain number of seats are reserved for Maharashtra state and MHT CET 2023 qualified candidates only.
- Maharashtra JEE Main Counselling 2023 is going to be held in three rounds of seat allotment. Candidates who are allotted seats will have to confirm their admission by paying the seat confirmation fees and reporting to the allotted institute.

- Candidates who have passed Class 12th in 2021, 2022 or are appearing in 2023 are eligible to register for Maharashtra JEE Main Counselling 2023.
- General/OBC candidates must have at least 75% in Class 12th to be eligible for admission and SC/ST candidates require 65% marks.

The most important step to participate in MHT CET Counselling is to register for it at the given date. Candidates are required to keep visiting the official website of MHT CET CAP 2023 to remain updated regarding important events and dates. JEE Main 2023 qualified candidates who fail to register themselves are going to be allowed o participate in the counselling process at a later date. The details process for MHT CET 2023 Counselling registration is discussed below:
1. Register at the Candidate’s Portal
- Visit the official website of MHT CET 2023
- Select the ‘New Registration’ option at the candidate's login portal
- Fill in the personal details. Be absolutely careful to remove any error while typing your name, parent's name, religion, category, domicile, and mother tongue
- Fill in your contact details such as phone number, alternate phone number, email, and address details.
- Select a security question and fill in the correct answer. Be careful to select a question whose answer only you know and remember. Security questions help in the retrieval of the registered account in case a candidate forgets his/her student ID or password.
- Select an appropriate password. The guideline for choosing a proper password is mentioned below.
- Password must be 8 to 13 characters long
- Password must have at least one upper and lower case alphabet.
- At least one numeric value must be present in the password.
- Password must contain at least one special character i.e., !@#$%^&*-
2. Fill in the Examination and Qualification Details
Candidates will have to fill in his/her JEE Main 2023 as well as other qualification details.
- Submit your class X and XII subject-wise and overall marks along with the name of the school board.
- Provided information about your JEE Main 2023 exam such as exam session, roll number, marks obtained, and course/subject opted for.
3. Uploading the Required Images/Documents

The various steps involved in the seat allotment process of MHT CET Counselling through JEE Main 2023 is discussed in detail.
1. Reporting at Admission Facilitation Centres (AFC) for verification
Successfully registered candidates are required to report at the Admission Facilitation Centers allotted to them for verification of the documents. They will be required to produce the original above-mentioned documents for verification purposes and a set of self-attested copies of the original documents for submission at the AFC center.
Candidates who fail to show up at the AFC within the mentioned date and time or those who procure false documents/information are not going to be allowed to participate in the counselling process.
2. Display of Merit List
- After completion of the offline document verification process, the authorities will publish a provisional merit list for Maharashtra State/All India candidates on the official website.
- Candidates will be given a specific time frame within which they can submit any counselling-related grievances.
- Finally, the authorities will publish final merit lists of Maharashtra State/All India candidates on the website along with a list of provisional category-wise seats available for the academic year.
3. Selection of College and Course
The provisionally selected candidates are required to log in to their account and select the choice of college and course. Candidates can select a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 300 options. All of the options are to be selected in order of preference as this will be taken into consideration during the allotment of seats.
4. Display of Seat Allotment List
After the closure of the web-option/choice-filling window, Maha CET will release the seat allotment list. Candidates who are allotted a seat will have to log in to the candidate portal to “freeze”, “float” or “slide” their allotted seat. The process can also be conducted offline at any AFC depending on the situation.
- If the candidate does not want to take part in the further round of seat allotment, then they must select “Freeze”.
- The option of “Slide” can be used if the candidate accepts the allotted seat but is open for admission into a higher preferred course within the same institute.
- “Float” is used when the candidate accepts the allotted seat but shows interest if any choice of course or college that is more preferred by the candidate is open for admission in the further rounds of allotment.
5. Reporting at Allotted Institute
Candidates who are successfully allotted a seat in the counselling process will have to report at the allotted institute to complete the admission process. They will be required to pay the remaining admission confirmation fees and submit the above-mentioned documents within the stipulated date and time. A candidate who fails to show up at the allotted institute on the mentioned date and time will no longer be considered for admission.
