MA Comparative Indian Literature introduces students to different aspects of language, literature, and culture. Comparative Literature is an academic field which focuses on the study of literature and culture across national boundaries. In this course, the focus is on the study of India’s Literature including the literature of Northern India, Tamil Literature, Buddhist Literature, etc. It also studies the influence of Sanskrit language and European language on the Indian Literature and other Indian Languages.

MA Comparative Indian Literature: Eligibility

The most important eligibility for pursuing MA Comparative Indian Literature is that the student should have completed their graduation. The student should have also obtained at least 50% marks in their graduating exam. There are many colleges who don’t consider the course in which the graduation was pursued. But still, most of the colleges offering this course in India give preference to those who have studied the related subjects. MA Comparative Indian Literature: Admission Process

Admission to MA Comparative Indian Literature is based on mostly on an Entrance Exam and/or on the merit marks in qualifying exam. Some of the institutes with Entrance exams are as follows:

AUEE: Assam University conducts an Entrance Exam for MA Comparative Indian Literature. The application forms for this are available in the month of June and the entrance exam is held in July.   

DUET: The department of modern languages and literature studies of the University of Delhi conducts an entrance exam, followed by a group discussion and interview. The admission forms are available in the month of June and the entrance exam is held in July.

Entrance Exam

MA Comparative Indian Literature entrance exam will be of 1½ hours to 2 hours and will comprise 90-100 questions. There is no negative marking for the exam.

For the entrance exam students will be assessed on their knowledge of Indian Literature primarily and hence it is advised to brush up on the syllabus of Indian Literature of the graduation level. Some of the topics which can be prepared are as follows:
