B.Tech of Leather Technology is a four year undergraduate course. The course is divided into eight semesters with each semester of 6 months. After the second semester of B.Tech Leather Technology, subjects focus more on the latest techniques used in leather designing for new brands.

For the admission to B.Tech in Leather Technology, the student who has passed 10+2 with minimum 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible. However, some colleges have the eligibility criteria as 50% marks in 10+2.
Students have to qualify JEE Main and other state level engineering exams to take admission.
For taking admission to this course, the students have to qualify the entrance exams i.e JEE main for the NITs & other state level engineering colleges. After clearing the exam, students have to appear in the counseling conducted by various universities and colleges where students get admission according to their rank in the entrance exam. Students after clearing the JEE main exam have to appear in the JEE Advanced to get admission at IITs.
In the entrance exam, the questions will be based on Physics, Chemistry and Maths. There will be three sections in the exam & each section consists of 30 questions. Total number of questions is 90. Each question is for 4 marks. It is of three hours. Some of the private institutes conduct their own tests for admission. Application forms of most of the entrance exams are available in the month of December and submitted in the month of January.

Selection will be made on the basis of class XII, class XI & class X marks, ranking in the JEE or Equivalent performance in academics. Applicants with minimum 70% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in class XII and a JEE score will be eligible for admission to the B.Tech course in Leather technology.
Students who clear JEE main Exam can appear in JEE advance exam to get admission in IITs.
Direct admission is available in some of the institutes in this course on the basis of the marks scored in 10+2 exams. Private colleges offer direct admission in the management quota. Course fee for the students admitted through management quota is higher than the students who are admitted on the normal seats.
Various colleges in India provide Lateral Entry in the B.Tech courses. Students can take direct admission in the second year after completion of their diploma course. Some colleges take entrance exam (LEET) for the diploma holder students for their admission directly into the third semester. Students with minimum 60% marks (eligibility criteria is different for different institutes) in the diploma are eligible to take admissions in the this course. Institutes like Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology, Kolkata offer lateral entry through JELET entrance test.
Candidates who are working and are not able to attend regular classes can pursue B.Tech in Leather Technology through distance education. Some of the institutes like Thapar University, Jawaharlal Technical University etc. in India offer this distance course.
Candidates who have completed their B. Tech in Leather Technology can work in primary processing units, production promotion sector and design units. After gaining experience in the leather industry, one can set their own business which is profitable as demand of leather products is increasing by the day.
