Nalbari College is a premier co-educational college of Arts and Science. In the beginning, the college was affiliated to Calcutta University, but in 1948, when Gauhati University was established it came under GU’s jurisdiction. At present, the college offers UG programs for 09 Humanities & Social Science departments and 07 Science departments and PG programs for Assamese and English. Further, since 2013, the College with approval from the University has introduced two more professional courses i.e. B.P.Ed and B.Sc. IT, as well as two new self-financing courses i.e. BCA and PGDCA. Admission to all the courses is done on the basis of merits in the qualifying examination.

Nalbari College Admissions
Admissions to all the courses of Nalbari College are based solely on merit in the previous qualifying examination. The application form must be downloaded and submitted online before the stipulated date. An application fee of INR 250 is also required to be paid. Selected students will be intimated and are required to report to the college on the day as mentioned, failing to do which the provisional admission will be revoked. Admissions to hostel facilities if required are also conducted on the same day.
The documents required at the time of admission are:
- Original mark-sheet of the last qualifying examination.
- Certificate from the Head of The Institution last attended
- Gap certificate (if necessary) issued by a Gazetted Officer/ Head of the Institution last attended
- Two Copies of passport size photographs showing the date and name of the applicant.
- Original Caste Certificate when admission is sought against the reserved category.
- Original supporting documents for extracurricular activities when admission is sought against EC quota.
- Original documents issued by a competent authority in case of differently-abled candidates.
Nalbari College Scholarships
The college generates a Student Mutual Aid Fund for every academic year. This fund provides financial assistance to meritorious but economically deprived students. To avail financial aid from this fund students are to apply in a prescribed Application Form available at the college office. Each application should be accompanied with an income certificate of the parents from the competent authority. A committee is appointed to scrutinize the application and to prepare the list of deserving candidates.

Nalbari College Facilities
Some of the facilities provided by the college are:
- Hostel: Hostel facility is provided only for girls, within the college campus. Hostel seats are allotted at the time of admission on the basis of merit. Badminton and Carrom facilities are available, as well as wifi inside the hostel campus.
- Library: The total area of the Library is 515 sq meters. (5544 sq. ft.) with a total Seating Capacity of 139. It has a collection of 66973 textbooks and reference books, with an added bonus of more than 3135000 e-books, and 6000 e-journals. 12 Newspapers are also subscribed to.
- Academic Facilities: There are fourteen ICT enabled classrooms, three Computer Laboratories, two seminar halls, one UGC Network Resource Centre, and one Digital Classroom.
- Other facilities include a large playground flanked with a pavilion, a computer lab, two sets of generators for uninterrupted power supply, a Conference Room, and a canteen for students and teachers.

Nalbari College Faculty
Faculty and Staff recruitment procedure is maintained according to the existing norms and guidelines of UGC and the state government. There are currently a total of 22 Assistant professors and 66 associate professors among the teaching faculty. Among these, 32 teachers are qualified with Ph.D., 23 with an M.Phil, and 43 with Masters only. The faculty has an average teaching experience of 19 years.

Ques. Are there any welfare schemes students can avail of?
Ans. Students can avail of the Student Mutual Aid Fund if eligible. They will also be provided with Medical Facilities as a welfare scheme.

Ans.There is no Parent-Teacher Association in the college. However, the college involves parents on different occasions. Departments organize Guardians Meet regularly. The Governing Body of the college has a member from among the guardians of the current students.

Ans. The college does have a career counseling cell that organizes workshops and seminars periodically. However, this does not take a proactive role in ensuring the placements of the students.

Ques. Is there a college uniform?
Ans. Yes. In summer, boys have to wear Parrot Green Shirt and Black Trousers, while girls are supposed to wear Parrot Green Kurta and Black Salwar and Dupatta. During winter, the same uniform is used along with a black sweater or blazer.
