B.A. Hindi or Bachelor of Arts in Hindi is an under-graduate course in Hindi which aims to study fundamental aspects of Hindi language and literature.

For admission to this program a student must have passed 10+2 examination with Hindi as one of the subjects.

The duration of the program is 3 years in which there are six semesters .i.e. two semesters in each year. The tuition fee for BA Hindi course generally falls in the bracket of 8000 INR to 25,000 INR.

Subjects studied under this course are Poetry, Drama, Fiction, Literary Criticism, Literary History etc.

After completion of the program one can find employment in a variety of sectors such as education, media, foreign embassies  etc.

The average salary for those who wish to pursue a career in teaching foreign languages can start earning in the range of Rs.10, 000 to Rs.20, 000 per month.  Candidates working with embassies can receive a compensation of Rs.8, 000 per month to 10,000 per month. Translators are paid between Rs 50 to 100 per page. Interpreters generally earn around Rs 300 to 500 per hour.

There is one significant difference between the two courses is that BA Honors in Hindi allows a student to specialize in any of the various aspects of Hindi Language and Literature. A BA Honors in Hindi provides an in-depth knowledge of the subject.

Duration

A Bachelor of Arts course in Hindi is of 3 years duration. Colleges which follow Semester system of assessment have two semesters in each year, while colleges which follow annual system have one term per year. For BA in Hindi through distance or correspondence mode, the minimum duration to complete the course is 3 years and maximum duration is from 5 to 6 years.

Academic Career after BA Hindi

After completion of the course, BA Hindi graduates can opt for further studies. An obvious choice is an MA in Hindi Literature. There are other good options such as MA in Journalism (Hindi) or MA in Mass Communication and Journalism with a specialization in Hindi  Patrakarita. They can also pursue a Post-Graduate Diploma in Functional Hindi and Translation or a Post-Graduate Diploma in Hindi Journalism. A lot of students also pursue a Bachelor of Education degree after the course for a career in education.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate should have Passed (10+2) or Higher Senior Secondary Certificate Examination  from the CBSE or from the equivalent examination of any state / ISC recognized to it.
  •  He/She should have obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
  • All SC/ST candidates have a relaxation of 5% in the minimum aggregate.
  • Candidates should have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December of the academic year.
