Annamalai University Directorate of Distance Education was established in the year 1979 in the state of Tamil Nadu. At present, the University has 49 departments under 10 faculties. Annamalai University Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) is one of the few Indian Institutes with all faculties under one roof. There are more than 500 courses that are currently being offered under the distance education program, which range from certificate courses to diploma, undergraduate to post-graduate courses and so on.

Candidates applying for any of the courses are required to score at least 50% marks in their last qualifying exam (45% for SC/ST candidates in select courses).
For the applicants applying for either of the post-graduate programs offered by the university, candidates must possess graduation in a relevant discipline.
Interested candidates can apply to all courses offered by DDE, Annamalai University through online registration.
The applicant is required to submit a hardcopy of duly filled-in applications to the university office. Application fees can be paid offline through demand draft.
Selection of candidates is strictly done on the basis of merit.
The candidates are further filtered on the basis of their performance in a counseling session.
The allotment of seats will be done at the time of counseling.

Annamalai University DDE UG Admission 2023

Annamalai University accepts applications from all eligible candidates, while admission is done strictly on the basis of merit. The basic eligibility criteria for applying to any of the UG courses offered by the university is clearing 10+2 with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

Once selected for admission, candidates are required to appear for a counselling session conducted by the university. The applicant is required to produce his/her original educational documents during the time of counselling.

Candidates can apply by downloading the application form from the university website or by requesting a copy from the university campus by paying the required application fee. Those who have downloaded the application from the university website will be required to pay the application fee via demand draft favoring “The Director, DDE, Annamalai University.”

Candidates are required to send the duly filled and signed application form with attested photocopies of all crucial documents before the prescribed last dates of submission.

For certain courses, the candidate is further required to clear 10+2 in the relevant stream with the minimum required cut-off marks as set by the university.
Selection to any of the UG courses offered by the university is subject to merit on the basis of marks obtained in 10+2 and on relevant subjects.
Final admission to the UG courses is done through counseling process.

Admission to all PG courses offered by Annamalai University is strictly on the basis of merit. The basic eligibility criteria for applying to any of the PG courses offered by the university is graduation in the relevant field with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks. Once selected for admission, candidates are required to appear for a counselling session conducted by the university.

Selection to any of the PG courses offered by the university is subject to merit on the basis of marks obtained in graduation and on relevant subject(s). Further, sitting for a counselling session is required for the final selection of candidates.

Candidates applying for PG courses must possess graduate degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 50% marks.
While general candidates are required to score at least 50% marks in their last qualifying exam, SC/ST candidates are required to score 45%.

Firstly, start going through the notes from your first month onwards, only then you will fully get to utilize the contact classes. According to the several students reviewing online, Annamalai University is comparatively easier to prepare for than IGNOU. Many of the students often come to University with their families and stay in a lodge to do the course. IGNOU will be a good choice if you want your medium of language to be Hindi. Annamalai University has published the Application for Admission to the Convocation For the students of Distance Education. The candidates can apply for admission to the convocation by submitting their application form. They also have to submit the Copies of the Provisional Certificate. These should reach The Registrar, Annamalai University, Annamalainagar 608 002. A fee of INR 750 is to be remitted for taking various degrees. In the case of candidates who have qualified for the degree in the examination more than one year, but within four years, at the time of Convocation it is INR 100. For candidates who have qualified for the degree in the examination more than four years at the time of Convocation INR 175. After this fill the Convocation form Annamalai University. The following documents must be enclosed with this form: a Copy of Provisional Certificate, a Copy of Certificate - CRRI completion (for Faculties of Medicine & Dentistry), Compulsory Internship completion Date (Pharm D), Original Chalan / D.D. and Address slip duly filled up by the applicant.

Is Annamalai University distance education UGC approved?

No, Annamalai University Distance Education is not approved by UGC. It is not approved by DEB either. One of my close friends attended the university and didn’t have a good experience. Here are some of his insights. If you are a resident of a state other than Tamil Nadu, then you may face problems in receiving your certificates. You will not be able to collect your certificate from any branch office or study center. In the end, you will have to go to Annamalai University directly. Regarding the UGC approval, the institute has filed a case in the High Court as it was previously approved. But there is no final decision yet. My friend also complains that the staff at the study center are not very cooperative. As the university is not UGC approved, your degree will not be of any use. One of my friends completed his MA in Industrial Psychology through IGNOU. According to him, it is a well-thought-out course with a term-end examination, compulsory internship, and research projects. My friend also consulted with some practicing Psychologists regarding the study material. According to them, the course is at par with the regular university courses. The advantage of this course is that you can complete the course over a period of 5 years and examinations are taken twice each year. So, you can take examinations for 2-3 subjects each term and complete the course easily along with a full-time course or job. Study Center and Regional Center are two points of contact for IGNOU. Lately, there have been some issues regarding RCs and teachers in IGNOU. Going forward they need to address these issues.

No, distance education degree from Annamalai University isn’t valid to go study abroad. In recent news, UGC has declared all ODL degrees at Annamalai University invalid. UGC released a notice on March 25 saying that Annamalai University doesn’t have the prior approval of UGC to offer any open or distance learning courses. UGC also went on to warn students against taking admission to ODL programs offered by Annamalai University.

Annamalai University distance education MBA isn’t a good option. The distance education programs offered by the university aren’t approved by UGC and DEB. UGC released a public notice on 25th March 2022, directing students not to take admission in any ODL programs offered by the institute. It will be better if you look for other universities for MBA.

Before 2007, several students completed their graduation and postgraduate studies at Annamalai University via distance education. The degree was declared invalid by the High Court of Karnataka because it did not have DEC approval. DEC, on the other hand, was officially formed in 2007. In such cases, neither the University nor the MHRD comes to the rescue, which is completely unfair.
