What I Liked

Reputed Faculty and Staff: The institute boasts experienced and knowledgeable faculty members who are well-versed in their respective fields. This can significantly enhance the learning experience for students.
State-of-the-Art Facilities: The campus is equipped with modern laboratories, libraries, and research facilities. These resources provide students with hands-on experience and access to the latest technological advancements in pharmaceutical science.
Industry Connections and Placement Opportunities: The institute has strong ties with the pharmaceutical industry, offering students numerous internship and placement opportunities which can be crucial for gaining practical experience.

What I didn’t like

High Tuition Fees: The cost of education at the institute can be quite high, which might be a concern for some students and their families. Financial aid and scholarships may be limited.
Location and Campus Life: Depending on personal preferences, the location in Kolkata might be a drawback for some students. Additionally, the campus life might not be as vibrant or engaging as larger universities.
Admission Process: The admission process can be competitive and stressful, with stringent eligibility criteria and limited seats available. This can be discouraging for prospective students who do not meet the cut-off marks or other requirements.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 7th semester of their course. Companies such as Cipla, Sun Pharma, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, and Wockhardt visit the campus.The number of offers varies each year, with around 60-70% of students typically receiving job offers. The highest package offered ranges from INR 6-8 lakhs per annum, usually for roles in research and development or quality assurance. The average package is around INR 3-4 lakhs per annum, with profiles in sales, production, and clinical research. On average, about 60-70% of students secure placements through campus recruitment. After completing the degree, I plan to pursue a Master’s degree in Biotechnology to deepen my expertise and improve my career prospects in the research and development sector.

Remarks:

To apply for the B.Sc. Biotechnology course, candidates must have completed 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks in science subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The application form is available on the official GNIPST website. The fee is generally around INR 500, payable online. Forms are typically available from April to June. Admission may require entrance exams like WBJEE or direct admission based on 12th-grade marks. The cut-off varies each year based on the number of applicants and their scores. The admission process could be improved with clearer instructions and timelines on the official website. Enhanced support for applicants, including a dedicated helpline and FAQs, would make the process smoother. More transparency in the cut-off criteria and selection process would help manage applicant expectations better. Overall, while the admission process is fairly straightforward, enhancements in communication and support could significantly improve the experience.
