For M.Phil. Program:
Eligibility:
Candidates must have passed Master’s in Law (LLM) from any recognized university, with a minimum of 55% marks. A 5% relaxation may be given to those from reserved categories.
Selection Process:
The selection process is a comprehensive system which aims to analyse all aspects of a candidate’s aptitude towards the course. It generally consists of an entrance examination as well as a personal interview.
- The written test consists of a 150 mark, 2 hour paper, which covers three main topics – research aptitude, constitutional law of India, and legal theory.
- Those who secure 50% in the written test will qualify for the personal interview stage, which has a 50 marks weightage (total 200) towards the final grade.
- The performance in the interview will serve as the deciding factor for the preparation of the merit list.

Candidates must fulfil any of the following criteria to be considered eligible for admission at NLUO.
- Master’s Degree in Law from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks obtained.
- Degree in Law and a Master’s Degree in Social Science or Humanities, Management Studies or Sciences from any recognised University with not less than 55% marks or its equivalent grade.
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities or Management Studies from any recognised University with 55% marks and have had at least two years of teaching experience.
Selection Process:
There is a comprehensive selection process involved in the Ph.D. program admission. . It generally consists of an entrance examination (NLUORET) as well as a personal interview.
- The written test consists of a 150 mark, 2 hour paper, which covers three main topics – research aptitude, constitutional law of India, and legal theory.
- Those who have cleared NET / JRF examination are exempted from the written examination.
- Those who secure 50% in the written test will qualify for the presentation stage, where they must present their research proposal covering the following aspects:
i) Statement of Problem
ii) Relevance of Research
iii) Research Questions
iv) Research Hypothesis
v) Tentative Chapterisation
