I was looking for this course for my post-graduation. There are back-to-back lectures as there is a block system. Hence every subject is taught for 10 days. The faculty is good enough. They have many visiting faculties who are currently working in big companies in higher positions. Their experience brings in a lot of industrial exposure. Adding to it, regular case study discussions take place in every subject.

The course curriculum is very broad covering a wide range of subjects that enhance our analytical as well as logical abilities. We have almost 8 subjects on average in each trimester. During the second year, we will also have to choose a minor specialization along with the major specialization subject. Faculty members are excellent with impeccable academic records and a vast amount of industry exposure and experience. I chose this course because I always wanted to do marketing and thought this is a better way to move forward towards the goal. The batch size is 690 and each class on average has 66 students. Exams are held every 3 months and it is medium difficult to pass exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because of my interest in business and how the corporate world works. The faculty is great at KJSIM. Along with theory, practical knowledge is also provided and practical life examples are given and students are expected to do case studies and presentations for overall learning. Every faculty member has different qualifications, most of them are Ph.D. in their fields, some are IIMS, and IITS alums and some were in the corporate world earlier. Exams are held 3 times a year and if the student pays attention in class and regularly studies, the exams are not difficult to pass.

Course Curriculum Overview:

MBA was necessary to shape up my entire career trajectory and K J Somaiya Institue of Management aligned rightly with my expectations. They have an excellent faculty with a faculty: student ratio of 1:24. They inculcate knowledge majorly via the use of various HBR cases and fun activities. Classes at K J Somaiya are full of learning and fun. HBR teaching method helps students in understanding various real industry-based scenarios. The majority of the professors are stalwarts in various domains of management with several years of work experience. Our end-term exams are pretty well structured and are as per the schedule. They require conceptual clarity along with some practice.

Ques
Everyone says K J Somaiya is better than TAPMI in all terms. Still, TAPMI is ahead of K J in rankings by almost every magazine or site. Why?

● Top Answer By Divya Kaur on 08 Jul 21

Ans
TAPMI is considered to be much better than K J Somaiya. I can say this because my brother has completed his education from TAPMI and I have some friends who have studied in K J Somaiya. TAPMI has been AACSB accredited for the past few years now. It's not that simple for colleges to attain and maintain that accreditation. TAPMI is ahead in rankings because it deserves to be ranked above K J Somaiya. K J Somaiya provides courses for a lesser amount of money as compared to TAPMI and this is one of the major reasons why people tend to get confused between TAPMI and K J Somaiya. Both K J Somaiya and TAPMI are considered to be Tier 2 colleges in India. TAPMI has been able to make students good leaders. The only advantage that K J Somaiya has over TAPMI is the location. K J Somaiya is situated In Mumbai which can be of great benefit for many students. TAPMI has helped over 400 students to get placed every year. The average package offered by companies to students of TAPMI comes around to be INR 10.6 Lakhs per annum. Some top recruiters of TAPMI include Deloitte, Microsoft, and Salesforce. The campus and infrastructure of TAPMI are also a lot better than K J Somaiya. Hence, TAPMI is better than K J Somaiya and deserves a better ranking in magazines and websites.

Ques
What is the placement scenario at K J Somaiya?

● Top Answer By Ishita Bhatt on 16 Apr 21

Ans
The placement scenario for K J Somaiya is pretty good. Big MNCs visit the campus but the probability of the students being selected or rejected depends on the student’s knowledge as well as their skill set. The environment of K J Somaiya is very competitive. Students put in their best and work extremely hard to learn new things like programming languages, platforms, etc. It is because, by the end of the engineering degree, everybody lies at an equal level and is equally knowledgeable. Category K J Somaiya Companies Visited Quikr, Hindustan Unilever, etc. Average Package 5.57 Lakhs Highest Package 18.76 lakhs Total Recruiters 80 Total Offers 611 Highest Recruiting Sector IT If you wish to grab the best package, you need to stand out and offer something unique from your end with regard to knowledge as well as personality. This stands true for all the other colleges as well, including IITs and VJTI.  If you are an exceptional student, you will be able to grab a good job irrespective of your college name. On the other hand, if you are an average student who is struggling to pass the subjects, then you will get an average package which would range around 25,000 per month or even worse, might not get a job at all.

Ques
How was your KJ Somaiya GD PI experience?

● Top Answer By Somya Khandelwal on 31 Mar 21

Ans
My brother appeared for his interview last year. His GD PI was at the Vidyavihar campus in Mumbai in the first week of March. He was a little nervous when he walked into the auditorium, where so many people were waiting for their turn. GD Round: There was a group of 10 people for a case-based discussion. He and the other candidates went into a room where they were provided with a case sheet by the faculty. In addition, they had three minutes to read and think about the case. After which each person would be given 1 minute to conclude. His group got the case where the question was asked whether the funds allocated to ISRO should be used for other more important purposes. There have been some statistics on the current percentage of GDP allocated to ISRO for their projects and other information in paragraph or two. The discussion had a mix of all that. One person was shouting that ISRO should not be given any money while some other people, including my brother, were saying that it would help to improve the image of India as a developing nation in terms of technology and eventually attract FDI. Another person used the statistics given in the case very wisely. The rest of the people were chipping in their points to stay in the discussion. There are few things you must keep in mind: You don't have to raise your voice to make a powerful point. You need to study the case carefully and underscore important information. Quality is always better than quantity. You can make 2-3 points that are better than talking constantly about irrelevant things. Use statistics if they are provided. It adds a lot of significance and contributes to a strong point. It is imperative to be competent in English. It communicates your points very easily to the judge. The conclusions are very important, as in one minute, you can make your point without anyone disturbing you. It will also help you to recover if you didn't perform well in the discussion. PI Round: After the GD he really wanted to do well in the PI because the discussion had not gone that well for him. He knew that the first statement in most college interviews was 'Tell us about yourself.' So, he was already prepared to answer that question by including things that would give them clues as to the questions most favorable to him. According to his expectations, for most of the interview, the 2-member panel asked him questions about the start-up and all. Other questions were based on general knowledge, such as "Who is Nandan Nilekani?" "What is he famous for?" and so on. As a mechanical engineer, he was also prepared for the question of his choice to opt for the Financial Services program. The interview went exactly as he thought. He was satisfied with it, and he was pleased that he had most likely recovered the points he had lost in the GD.Being honest and smart made him crack his interview.

Ques
What should I choose between Sydenham PGDBM and K J Somaiya MMS?

● Top Answer By Samiksha Panday on 08 Sept 21

Ans
Having known some students of both these colleges, I can say that both the colleges are really good in terms of infrastructure, culture, and faculties. There are of course some differences too and for that let me share with you a few details. K J Somaiya has better infrastructure and the campus is located at the heart of the city. SIMSREE doesn't have such a big infrastructure. SIMSREE has a better ROI than K J Somaiya.  Placement usually depends on your profile and how you perform in your management education & certainly performance in interviews. Professors, peers both are good in both colleges.  At SIMSREE, the finance course is much better as there are several guest lecturers visiting from JBIMS. Both SIMSREE and K J Somaiya’s program in MMS is Mumbai University affiliated. Its degree is acceptable for several government jobs as well. Categories MMS at SIMSREE MMS at K J Somaiya Course Fee 1.36 lakh 3.24 lakh Highest CTC 20 LPA - Average CTC 12 LPA 8-9 LPA Recruiting Companies American Express, Barclays, ITC, KPMG, etc. Amazon, HUL, Deutsche Bank, Wipro, etc. It must be noted that PGDBM is not offered at SIMSREE rather the institute also offers MMS in affiliation with Mumbai University. Also, while choosing between MMS at Sydenham and K J Somaiya, it is suggested that you talk to alumni of both colleges, which would definitely give you a clear idea.
