Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT), established in 1998 and approved by Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, provides the best theoretical and practical education in shipping and create outstanding professionals.

HIMT offers B.Tech in Marine Engineering, B.Sc. in Nautical Science, and a number of certificate and diploma courses. Admission to B.Tech and B.Sc courses are done on the basis of IMU-CET conducted by the Indian Maritime University.

Candidates upon submission of IMUCET rank will be called for a panel interview which will test communication skills followed by document verification and medical test. To apply for the B.Tech and B. Sc. degree course, candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam in PCM from a recognized board with 60% marks in aggregate.

For B.Tech (Lateral Entry), the candidate with Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/ Marine Engineering with at least 60% marks and have done diploma of minimum three-year duration and 50% marks in English.

For admission in the PG Diploma course, candidates should have B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture with minimum 50% marks and 50% marks in English. For ETO, the candidate with PCM and English as a separate subject and minimum 50% marks in English in 10th and 12th standard both.

B.Tech.- Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Maths (PCM), and English as subjects with 60% marks in PCM and at least 50% marks in English.

B.Tech. (Lateral Entry)- Candidates must have Diploma in Mechanical/Marine Engineering (completed within 3 years from joining) from AICTE approved colleges with minimum 60% of aggregate marks and must have passed English with at least 50% marks in either 10th or 12th standard

HIMT offers a one-year-long course leading to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of competency, awarded by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India), after six months of sea service, enabling the cadets to become Marine Engineers on board Merchant Naval ships anywhere in the world. This course is strictly residential.

ETO- PCM and English as a separate subject and minimum 50% marks in English in 10th and 12th standard both

OCCPCandidates must have passed class X or XII from a recognized board with 40% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in English at 10th and 12th standard.

Degree or Diploma Certificate in Hospitality and Hotel Administration or Hotel Management and Catering Technology, or Catering, Culinary Arts or Hospitality and Tourism of a minimum six-month duration.

Admission will be granted on the basis of HIMT Online Entrance Test (HIMT OET) scores, Psychometric Test, Medical examination, Panel Interview, and Pre-Sea Training.

Ans. As per stipulations from D.G. Shipping, every candidate desirous of joining as an officer or an engineer on ships has to undergo one year of pre-sea training ashore. Pre-sea training can be undertaken in any one of the approved pre-sea training institutes across India.
