NID Bangalore Admission 2024 is ongoing. Admission to BDes and MDes programs will be granted on the basis of National Institute of Design, Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT) scores. The NID DAT 2024 registrations are open and the application deadline is December 01 (Without late fees) and December 03 (With late Fees). The admit card for DAT Pre will be released on December 12 and the DAT Prelims 2024 will be conducted on December 24, 2023.


Established in 2006, National Institute of Design, Bengaluru offers 5 courses under the Master's degree. In line with the fact that it’s the R&D wing of the prestigious NID, the courses include digital designing, interactive designing, etc.

  • The admission process involves an entrance exam followed by a studio test, and an interview. 
  • One can apply online via the official website of NID Bangalore
  • The applications are available on the website from the month of October. 

NID offers centralised placement opportunities for its campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bangalore. According to the Times of India, the highest package offered to NID students was 72 lacs per annum. NID Bangalore M.Des. Admission 2023

NID Bengaluru offers 5 courses under the Master's degree. Aspiring students require a bachelor's degree or a full-time diploma in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture to apply for admissions.

Students are admitted via an entrance exam followed by a studio test, and an interview.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria of NID Bengaluru rests on your educational qualifications, age and your entrance exam alongwith the studio test. However, the eligibility criteria varies slightly for the different categories. 

(i) Age Limit

Indian Nationals Foreign Nationals
General Born on or after 1 July 1990
General EWS  born on or after 1 July 1990 
Reserved Category born on or after 1 July 1987
Person with Disabilities (PwD)  born on or after 1 July 1985

(ii) Educational Qualifications

To satisfy the second requirement, one must possess either, 

  • Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India.
  • Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. 
  • Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India.

Notably, candidates, in the final year, whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application to NID, are eligible to apply, subject to passing all subjects without any backlog.

Selection Criteria

In order to be considered for admission, a candidate needs to have appeared in both DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

DAT Prelims and DAT Mains

  • A merit list is prepared in accordance with the results of DAT Prelims for each category. Based on that merit list, candidates are called for DAT Mains. DAT Mains includes a studio test+Interview. 
  • Thereafter, based on the results of DAT Mains, a number of candidates are shortlisted for each discipline offered by NID Bengaluru. Based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate in each stage of the admission process, namely the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains, the final merit list is prepared. 
  • The final merit list has category-wise generation of candidates for each of the disciplines. Finally, a Common merit list will be generated based on the percentile score. 

NID Bengaluru Application Process 2023

The Application process is just like any other entrance exam you apply for. Visit the official admissions website at http://admissions.nid.edu and follow the listed steps:

  • Download the M.Des. Admission Handbook and go through it thoroughly. 
  • The candidate needs to register/sign up online before proceeding to fill the application form.
  • After logging in successfully, they need to fill up their personal and educational details. 
  • The candidate needs to upload his/her signatures and documents
  • Pay the Application Fee as per the Category you belong to either through online mode or a demand draft. 

The documents required at the time of counselling are:

  • Passport Sized Photograph (minimum 60 KB and maximum 100 KB in size)
  • Scanned Copy of the Signature (Maximum 100 KB in size)
  • Category Certificates (JPG/JPEG format and not exceed 150 KB in size)
  • A valid e-mail ID

Seat Allocation & Reservations

The seat reservation at NID Bengaluru is based on the official guidelines of the government on the matter. Accordingly, NID Bengaluru has seat reservations in the following manner:

  • Notably, 5% of all the seats from the categories are reserved for the Persons with Disability (PwD). 
  • Of the seats available for the M.Des., 15% supernumerary seats are available for Overseas candidates. 
  • Further, foreign nationals applying under the Overseas category are outside the ambit of reservation of seats.
