PhD in Psychology at the University of Victoria is offered as a 4-years program by the Department of Psychology.
The University of Victoria also ranked 2nd in Maclean’s top Canadian Comprehensive Universities 2019.
Students will become a scientist-practitioner who uses research and evidence-based evaluations and treatments.
Students will learn practical job skills, like how to work in a cooperative research environment.
The PhD program consists of a minimum of 45 units.
Students can study one of five specialty areas:
- Cognition and Brain Sciences (including an accelerated option)
- Lifespan Health and Development
- Social Psychology
- Clinical Psychology (specializing in Lifespan Development or Neuropsychology)
- Individualized programs

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Students must have a bachelor’s and master’s degree in psychology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
A grade point average of 3.5/4.0 (B+ average) in the work of the last two years (30 units) leading to the bachelor’s degree.
Applicants should have taken at least one course in applied statistics.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Students must complete a bachelor’s and master's degree in psychology or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
The minimum grade score for a degree should be 7/10 (60%), first class.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
