• McMaster University offers MASc in Mechanical Engineering for a duration of 2 years.
  • It is an on-campus, thesis-based program available with both full-time and part-time options.
  • This is a research-intensive program, students are required to complete coursework and defend a thesis.
  • In this program, students develop their skills in analysis, creative problem solving, critical thinking, experimental methods and/or analytical models, resourcefulness, responsibility and the ability to present their work to a variety of audiences. 
  • All MASc students are supervised by a faculty member from the department.

  • Students can comple the full time program in 2 years and part-time program in 5 years.
  • The minimum course requirementsof the program aree 4 half-courses, at least 3 of which should be at the 700 level, and 2 courses must have "MECHENG" as part of the course code.
  • Students are required to present a thesis which embodies the results of independent work that the candidate has completed and demonstrates competence in Mechanical Engineering. An oral defence of the thesis is required.
  • In addition, all full-time M.A.Sc. students are required to successfully complete 4 offerings of MECHENG 758 graduate seminars in Mechanical Engineering.
  • The Department of Mechanical Engineering admits new students for each term (Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer) with our largest intake being in September (Fall term).
