- Dalhousie University offers a Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Engineering for a duration of 5 years.
- It is an on-campus, co-op program offered on a full-time basis.
- Materials Engineering students study the development of products used for building and manufacturing to respond to a range of societal needs efficient transportation, faster computers, and heat resistant materials.
- Materials Engineering co-op students work in fields including metallurgy, oil, and gas, transportation, manufacturing, telecommunications, energy conservation, shipbuilding, and electronics.
- Co-op students take the same academic program as the non-co-op program. The co-op option gives students an opportunity to complement their studies with 3 paid work terms.
- Students have to complete some additional courses prior to the 2 work term. These courses are:
- Materials Engineering
- Extraction of Materials
- Structure of Materials
- Process Thermodynamics
- Engineering Economics
- Years 1 and 2 follow the core Engineering program. A substantial part of the work in the first and second year is made up of core classes common to all engineering disciplines.
- students will apply to their preferred discipline in the winter term of the first year and the elective classes taken in the second year will depend on student's selected discipline.
- University offers a wide range of Engineering programs with opportunities for research and to gain practical, hands-on co-op work experience.
- The program comprised of approximately 95 faculty members and 45 staff members.
- The professors provide students with real-world experience through participation in faculty research projects.
- Job opportunities after BEng Materials Engineering are Metallurgical and Materials Engineers, CAD technicians, etc and the average salary goes up to 48,000 USD.
