Mechanical engineering involves the analysis, understanding, design and manufacture of components, devices and machines, often together with heat and fluid flows, that are integrated to create engineering systems.
In this major, Students will study intermediate and advanced topics that will permit entry to a career in contemporary mechanical engineering and its future development.
The curriculum is designed to allow student to understand how mechanical engineering combines with the other major engineering disciplines to produce products and systems.

Academics

Applicants require a 4-year Engineering degree from a recognised institution in the same discipline of study.
Students who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Professional Engineering degree at Curtin will be considered to have met the above course requirement

English Language Proficiency

Curtin requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. Specific English requirements for this course is IELTS exam.

Evidence of work and life experience: If students are applying for advanced standing based on their work and life experience should complete the form titled Supplement for Credit Transfer based on relevant Prior Professional and include the following supporting documents:
- Curriculum vitae
- Position description
- Employment confirmation
Employment confirmation: A signed official letter or statement on company letterhead from student employer or organization confirming the dates and type of student employment.
Supplementary documents: Students may be required to provide additional information with the application, depending on which Curtin University course they choose.
ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency test scores like IELTS, TOEFL other recognized English test results.
