Our courses take you beyond theory and into the classroom and onto the playing field. Your coursework prepares you to:

  • Acquire scientific and theoretical concepts to teach physical education
  • Teach fundamental motor skills
  • Teach nutrition and how to prevent obesity
  • Develop skills and competencies in multiple sport and leisure activities

And you get to share your excitement with K-12 students. A 15-week internship lets you work with elementary and either middle or high school students.

From the first day, you engage in active learning. Classes are filled with peer teaching opportunities and hands-on assignments, such as designing exercises. Classwork prepares you to address human sexuality in a public school class. You?ll be capable of helping youngsters gain an appreciation for healthy eating too.

Our program is a double major leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. We are fully accredited by the?National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education?and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Wingate University has developed a?course sequence?that lets you finish the degree, including student-teaching, in four years. We recommend that you follow this schedule from the beginning of your first year.

After you complete 45 credit hours, you officially apply to the ?Teacher Education Program. After you?re accepted to the program, you receive?solid grounding?in liberal arts, the science of health and educational theories.

You conclude with a full semester of student teaching. You get experience in elementary, middle and high schools, qualifying you to teach any age from K-12.
