Many students wonder exactly what they?ll learn in athletic training programs. A common misconception is that the athletic training major is all about physical training and fitness. This degree program is actually a robust blend of classroom instruction and hands-on experiences.
Athletic training programs provide you with an in-depth understanding of:
- Injury prevention
- Clinical evaluation and diagnosis
- Immediate and emergency care
- Treatment and rehabilitation
- The health profession
Our program also gives you plenty of opportunities to work with certified athletic trainers and other healthcare professionals.
What Sets Us Apart?Wingate University?s program is rigorous. It?s also highly competitive. This keeps our student-to-faculty ratio low, so you work more closely with professors and clinical preceptors.
Students are required to complete six clinical experiences to earn the degree. As you can see by our?BOC Exam Pass Rate Data, the practical experience our students gain gets them ready for board certification. Our students work with a variety of certified athletic trainers (ATCs) and healthcare professionals. Athletic training students have worked with such professional organizations and teams as:
- Carolinas Healthcare Systems
- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
- Novant Health
- OrthoCarolina Orthopedic Clinic
- The Charlotte Checkers
- The Charlotte Hornets
- Union County Public Schools
We also have eight certified ATCs on staff and 15 Division II varsity teams on campus. Wingate University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Education (CAATE).
