The Economics and Finance Department supports the Business Administration - Finance Concentration at University of North Carolina Wilmington. Students in liberal arts may also pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Economics as well as a minor in Economics within this department. Studying economics and finance will challenge students to sharpen their critical thinking skills and encourage them to apply classroom concepts to real-world problems. At the graduate level, the economic faculty supports courses in economic environment studies, while the finance faculty supports the International Master of Business Administration.

The department also engages students outside of the classroom. Each December, a select group of students travel to New York City to learn about the role of financial institutions in the macroeconomy. Students have attended presentations at institutions such as the New York Stock Exchange, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Barclays Capital, and Bank of America.
