The Sustainability program provides training in how to understand and address complex, interdisciplinary problems and work with people from a variety of backgrounds. Our faculty members actively conduct research on a range of environmental, social and economic issues.

University of South Dakota's program is highly experiential. From the core courses to the internship or research to the elective courses, our sustainability students are doing sustainability.

Students majoring in sustainability will be prepared to pursue careers in the private sector or government. Career areas include sustainable practices, natural resource management, renewable energy, community planning, non-governmental organizations and education.

The Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science gives students majoring in sustainability the opportunity to choose either a Natural Science Specialization or a Social Science Specialization.
