The program offers courses which give an introduction to the language, literature and culture of the German-speaking world. Most courses are taught in German. Study abroad opportunities are available, as are scholarships for study at the UA and abroad, including the Arizona in German summer program in Leipzig, Germany. A teaching major is also offered, leading to certification to teach in Arizona public schools.
The knowledge gained from the major in German Studies of German language, history, culture, literature, cinema, and international relations forms a strong foundation for careers and further study. Graduates can apply their cultural and linguistic skills to a variety of fields including education, business, journalism, cultural preservation, and government.
