Students are admitted into Pre-Business and will apply to Operations Management major through a competitive and selective process to gain admission.The field originated in manufacturing (where it is called production management) and deals with the management of productive activities. In manufacturing, the creation of physical products is the primary focus; in recent years, the concepts and techniques of operations management have been increasingly applied to the creation of services, extending to most types of productive systems.
The knowledge gained in the Operations Management major of economics, accounting, finance, information technology, communications, and production management provides a strong career foundation. Graduates will be prepared to manage, plan, assess, and streamline the creation of products and services in fields ranging from manufacturing and distribution to the airline industry to renewable energy production. This major is also excellent preparation for graduate studies in business administration.
