Health science majors can choose from three concentrations: school health, community health and the dual school and community health.
COMMUNITY HEALTH CONCENTRATION
Community health educators seek to educate and empower community members to understand their health, make healthy choices, improve their quality of life and reduce disease and disability. The community health concentration gives you a solid foundation in a variety of health topic areas, health education theory and practice, and program planning and evaluation. All students complete a 12-credit internship in a community setting.?
SCHOOL HEALTH CONCENTRATION
Students in the school health concentration receive certification to teach grades 7-12 in Maryland and other states around the country. Towson University?s teacher education programs are approved by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and the Maryland State Department of Education. Applicants for Maryland teacher certification must have qualifying scores on the Praxis I (or SAT) and Praxis II examinations.
