MSU’s classes are sequenced to continually build and reinforce student’s knowledge in a variety of different biomedical areas.
Students will spend extensive time gaining experience in our laboratories, which are furnished with state-of-the-art equipment.
Through a combination of service learning and volunteer opportunities, students will enhance their classroom knowledge and gain preparation for their careers.
CMB undergraduate students will be able to:
- Exhibit a knowledge base in genetics, cell and molecular biology, and anatomy and physiology
- Demonstrate the knowledge of common and advanced laboratory practices in cell and molecular biology
- Exhibit clear and concise communication of scientific data
- Engage in the review of scientific literature in the areas of biomedical sciences
- Critique and professionally present primary literature articles in the general biomedical sciences field

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

Completion of at least 25 hours of course work, including BMS 110, BMS 111, BMS 231, and CHM 160 and CHM 161,
A cumulative and science GPA of 2.50 or higher.
A student must achieve a grade of "C" or better in all specific general education requirements (item 1 below), all required BMS core courses (item 2 below), and all requirements from other departments (item 3 below).
A grade of "C" or better must be obtained in a prerequisite course prior to taking a sequential course.
In the terminal semester, the student is required to take a comprehensive assessment examination in Cell and Molecular biology.
Students must have completed a full sequence of studies that would qualify them for admission to university-level work in their own country. Additionally, freshman international students must have completed a recognized secondary program comparable to U.S. high school graduation, and have academic records demonstrating achievement comparable to the achievement required by the domestic Freshman Admission Requirements. Completed course work must be equivalent to the twelve-year program in the United States. To qualify as official, documents must be sent to the Missouri State Office of International Services directly from the issuing institution.
Students are required to submit SAT or ACT scores.
- Students may not need an ACT or SAT score to be admitted. If they have a high school cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, then students meet the selection index requirements, and a test score is not needed for admission purposes.
Proof of student’s proficiency in English is required if their primary language is not English. Persons who have completed one or more years of university-level study in the U.S. may be exempt at the discretion of the International Services Office. International students hailing from non-English speaking countries must submit TOEFL/IELTS... or any equivalent test score reports to meet the English proficiency requirement.
