The Department of History offers both undergraduate and graduate programs that enable students to comprehend the forces that have shaped the United States and the world. Our graduates are teachers and historians, and history is a particularly appropriate major for students bound for law or medical school. Also, history majors appear in every business field. Outstanding student research papers are published in the journal Passports, and Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society, sponsors academic and social activities for students. At the graduate level, our primary fields of study are American history, European history, and world history. Our faculty and students conduct research that draws on the special resources of the MLK Library as well as outstanding area research facilities, including the San Jos? Historical Museum, the California History Center at DeAnza College and the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.
