LL.M. candidates are required to successfully complete at least 24 credit hours of classes over two semesters of study.
All LL.M. candidates must take Introduction to Law (Fall, 3 units), Legal Writing and Research (Fall, 2 units), and one of the following first-year required courses: Contracts, Torts, Criminal Law, Property, Constitutional Law, or Civil Procedure.
LL.M. candidates who choose to pursue a Certificate of Specialization in one of eight areas of specialization must earn at least 12 credits in their chosen area.
All courses, with the exception of Introduction to Law and Legal Writing and Research, are taken together with UC Hastings Juris Doctor students.
All LL.M. candidates must attend a 2 week orientation program prior to the beginning of classes.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

To apply to the UC Hastings LL.M. program, applicants must be an attorney licensed outside of the U.S. or have completed (or expect to complete prior to enrollment at UC Hastings) a first degree in law outside of the U.S.

Indian Students Eligibility:

3 year Bachelor’s + Bachelor of Laws; integrated five year Bachelor of Laws. Bachelor of Laws is considered first professional exam.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
