The philosophy graduate program is dedicated to preparing graduates for a career in higher education. We provide training in logic or formal reasoning and provide a broad introduction to the history of philosophical thought, and contemporary debates in value theory, epistemology, and metaphysics.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Ability to read and analyze philosophical texts, both contemporary and historical. (Evidence of learning will be GSQE)
  • Broad background in the following philosophical areas: Ethics and Value Theory, Metaphysics, Epistemology and Philosophy of Science, History of Philosophy, Logic and Formal Methods. (Evidence of learning will be grades of B+ or better in courses (B for Logic and Formal Methods).)
  • Mastery of subject matter content in areas of competence at a level supporting ability to teach undergraduate classes. (Evidence of learning will be B+ or better grades in courses.)
  • Ability to develop extended written treatment of a philosophical problem. (Evidence of learning will be MS thesis)
