- The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering represents scholarly achievement demonstrated by independent research. A Ph.D. candidate must be able to demonstrate competence in the subject matter of his or her field. Of major importance to the Ph.D. degree is the student’s research, publication in peer-reviewed journals, and dissertation, which must provide new and significant contributions to knowledge in the student’s field.
- The intellectual and creative matter presented in the dissertation must meet the standards of the department and university. Typically, successful completion of a PhD degree requires five years for students entering the program with a Bachelors degree. The maximum allowable time for completion of the PhD degree is seven years.
