- As a Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) student at the University of Utah, the student will gain the knowledge and technical skills they need to work in a modern diagnostic medical laboratory. Accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), the MLS curriculum consists of courses in clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology, immunohematology, and hematology.
- These concepts are further ingrained through clinical experience rotations in medical laboratories in the area. MLS majors may choose to focus their studies in cytotechnology, or the cellular study of cancer. Regardless of the focus area, students will learn to collect, process, and analyze biological specimens, perform lab procedures, maintain instruments, and interpret lab findings.
- Graduates of this exciting program are then prepared for a number of careers in science and medicine, able to make a difference in the lives of others.
