Students may complete a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Communication within one of four sequences: Strategic Communication (public relations, advertising, integrated marketing); Journalism (online, broadcast, print); Communication Studies; or Science, Health, Environmental, and Risk Communication.

Multimedia laboratories are provided for study of reporting, editing, graphics, photography, radio and television production, and new media, including webcasting and podcasting. The facilities of the student-produced Newsbreak program, K-UTE radio, The Daily Utah Chronicle, and Venceremos are used for student professional experience. Students may also seek off-campus internships. Students needing assistance in selecting an area of specialization should contact the department.
