Consistent with the missions of Louisiana Tech University and the College of Liberal Arts, the School of History and Social Sciences maintains a faculty composed of professionals who understand and value the interrelated goals of instruction, research, and community service. In the tradition of liberal arts education, our school is student-centered and is committed to teaching and advising. To this end, our goals include the following:
- Help students acquire substantive knowledge in our disciplines, view themselves in other, wider contexts, and learn to think and write clearly and effectively through the teaching of general and specialized history and social science courses for undergraduate majors and minors, graduate students, and all other students as determined by the General Education Requirement or by their own curricula.
- Contribute to the expansion of historical and social scientific knowledge and understanding through original research and publication.
- Contribute to the diffusion of historical and social scientific knowledge and understanding through public outreach programs and service to professional and community organizations.
