Welcome to the Department of Spanish at the University of Redlands. We are a diverse department of scholars and teachers whose primary goal is to explore with our students the varied cultures and literatures of the Hispanic World as well as emphasize the proper use of the Spanish language. We offer a Bachelors degree in Spanish for those students seeking undergraduate study. We also provide the opportunity for students to study abroad in a Spanish speaking country.
Furthermore, we train students to think critically in an increasingly global community and to perceive complexity, and divergence in cultures through an interdisciplinary approach. Our task is deeply rooted in the liberal arts tradition. We welcome any questions you may have and thank you for your interest in our program.
Knowing Spanish enhances your probability of getting the job you want. To have the ability to speak Spanish will allow you to communicate with Spanish-speaking employees and employers. If no one else at your workplace speaks Spanish, you'll be even more valuable.
Most colleges and universities require that undergraduate students take at least two semesters of a foreign language. If you are thinking about pursuing graduate school, you should know that many require students to be able to read and comprehend one, and sometimes two, foreign languages.
