- As a student in this program, they will:
- Design their own six-course concentration from at least three disciplines
- Take at least two MALS Seminars specially designed to engage students and feature a range of topics
- Get to know a wide variety of students and faculty from across the campus
- The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree has become increasingly popular and is now offered by over 100 universities. This MALS Program is a member of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs, a consortium of universities throughout North America that offer this degree.

Academic Eligibility:
- GRE scores are not required.
- Unofficial transcripts from any undergraduate or graduate institution students have attended.
- Official transcripts may be requested upon department recommendation for admission.
- Students entering the Master's program in liberal studies must have an undergraduate degree.
- All non-US citizen applicants (i.e., non-resident aliens and permanent residents) must demonstrate proficiency in English at a level necessary to be successful in a graduate program at NC State.
