As an student at Mills, you?ll become part of a tight-knit, collaborative community of creative thinkers encompassing students, faculty, and visiting artists. You?ll receive individual attention from your professors, each of whom is an active professional artist and a dedicated educator. They?ll support you in all aspects of the creative process, from discussing ideas to experimenting with different media to integrating form and content.

Small studio classes will enable you to explore painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, new genres, and electronic arts. Art history courses will give you an understanding of the context of your work and critical theory. Visits to Bay Area museums and connections with Oakland?s vibrant arts community will help fuel your creativity. If you major in studio art, your program will culminate with an exhibition of works by you and other seniors at the Mills College Art Museum.?

Your experience with the creative process will serve you throughout your life. Many art graduates go on to top MFA programs to further develop their practice. Others work for employers who value innovative thinking and aesthetic judgment, including cultural and educational institutions, technology and fashion firms, and marketing and design agencies.
