Mass communication is the process that begins when someone observes what is happening, analyzes and interprets that information and transmits it to an audience through a variety of media. The mass media industry may be roughly divided into six basic areas of endeavor; advertising, public relations, journalism, information, entertainment, and research.
The School of Communication’s state-of-the-art Social Media Analytics Command Center is the first of its kind in the Midwest. The center is dedicated to studying social media analytics and strategy.
Students interested in visual design elements, computer layout and similar areas often find careers in web design, computer message design consulting, digital photography layout and similar areas.
Significant course-work in this sequence includes: Communication Technologies and Impacts, Graphic Communication, Photography, Non-Broadcast Television, Media Ethics, and Media Regulations.
