• Rutger’s program takes advantage of several interdisciplinary centers on the Busch Campus, such as the Institute for Advanced Materials, Devices and Nanomaterials (IAMDN) and the Ceramic and Composite Materials Center (CCMC).
  • They have well equipped laboratories for characterization of materials and their properties.
  • These laboratories are housed in buildings constructed specifically for the department in the late 1980s.
  • About 60 students are enrolled in the graduate program, most of them on a full-time basis.
  • The majority of the students are working towards the Ph.D. degree.
  • The core curriculum covers thermodynamics, kinetics, electrical and optical properties, and mechanical properties.
  • In addition to these classes, there are techniques courses in TEM and SEM, and advanced topics.
  • Most classes have between 5 and 10 students, promoting collegial relationships between faculty and students.
