- We envision excellence in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science as one?s attainment of the highest level of proficiency in mathematics and/or computer science. Excellence is dynamic. As skills and academic and professional attributes are increased and sharpened, newer standards of excellence are derived from previous plateaus of success.
- The department also offers a dual degree program in Mathematics and Engineering through contractual agreements with both Auburn University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.? ?Students complete the requirements for the Bachelors of Mathematics degree while attending ASU and then attend either Auburn or UAB to complete the undergraduate degree requirements for the Engineering discipline of their choice. Through this program initiative, the department aspires to have our students reach their objective of being tomorrow?s engineers.
- Engineers, computer scientists, physicists, and economists are among those who use mathematics extensively. Statisticians, actuaries, and operations research analysts, are actually specialists in a particular branch of mathematics. Mathematicians should have substantial knowledge of computer programming, because most complex mathematical computation and much mathematical modeling are done on a computer.
