Mercer's Technical Communication program is quickly becoming THE major for rising students. Innovative and practice-oriented, this program offers students invaluable real-world experience as well as countless other advantages.
The Bachelor of Science degree prepares technical communicators to enter a fast-growing, rewarding professional career. Mercer University's undergraduate degree is one of only a few in the USA located within an engineering school. Our strong technical grounding and real-world emphasis that combines theory with practice led our program to be selected by a group of Society for Technical Communication researchers as a model BS program. (The book,Education in Scientific and Technical Communication: Academic Programs That Work, edited by Michael L. Keene, was published by the Society for Technical Communication.)
Graduates of the Technical Communication program are able to analyze audiences for any type of communication, define their purpose, and design appropriate communication products to meet needs. Graduates also are able to write clearly for various audiences, present information accurately and persuasively, use a variety of media appropriately, and work successfully in a team environment. In addition, students completing our program often serve as the user advocate on design teams, focusing attention on design alternatives that respect the needs of the users and add value to technical products.
