Our faculty embraces the interpretation and production of texts as well as innovative study and teaching at the intersections of literature, linguistics, creative writing, composition and rhetoric, and technical communication. Students will be prepared to think critically about literature, language, culture, and technology as well as learn to engage in various sophisticated, nuanced, rhetorically-effective, and ethical oral and written forms of expression.
The Department of English aims to develop the reading and writing skills of students, increase their understanding of contemporary discourse and literary heritage, and strengthen their creative and analytical abilities through excellence in research, teaching and service. The BA program in English requires 120 semester credit hours, including the core curriculum, the major, and a minor. English majors must specialize in one of the following concentrations:
