This degree is a research-oriented degree within the general field of epidemiology. It includes the preparation of a thesis or comprehensive examination and is appropriate for students intending to go into a research career.
The curriculum for the MS degree serves as the pedagogical foundation for students pursuing a PhD in the Department. Therefore, participation in the MS program corresponds with the expected time to degree for the Ph.D.
Students must maintain an average of no less than 3.0 (B) in all courses required or elected during a graduate residence at the University of California.
Students must complete at least one year of graduate residence at the University of California and 56 units.
Epidemiology MS students may follow either the thesis plan (Plan I) or the capstone plan (Plan II). A thesis or capstone plan must be completed before graduation.

Academic Eligibility:

Applicants who hold a prior MPH or doctoral degree (e.g., MD, DDS, DVM, PhD or equivalent), or those applicants whose ultimate degree objective is the PhD degree receive priority consideration.
Submission of GRE scores is recommended but not required for this program. Students may voluntarily submit GRE test scores and they will be reviewed as part of the holistic application consideration.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
