The School Counseling program at UL Lafayette gives its students the tools, knowledge, and support they need to maximize their goals and to be successful in the field. Their program advances their knowledge of age-appropriate interventions to assist students in meeting personal, academic, and career goals.
  • The School Counseling concentration meets the educational requirements for certification by the Louisiana Department of Education as a counselor, K-12 or ancillary counselor, K-12.By the successful completion of your degree program, students will have gained the following skills and knowledge:
    • Apply the ASCA National Standards for Students to the school counseling discipline.
    • Communicate with sensitivity, understanding, and respect in all professional interactions.
    • Apply the ACA and ASCA Codes of Ethics to professional behavior the practice of school counseling.
    • Deliver culturally sensitive individual counseling, small group counseling, and classroom guidance activities to students in K-12 settings.
