The program will prepare you to manage the acquisition, storage and retrieval of health information. In addition, the health informatics and information management major will provide you with specialized training in using information technology to support efficient and effective health care administration, innovative health care services delivery, secure consumer-centric health care and effective and quality health outcomes.
To be successful in this program, you should enjoy studying sciences and working with data, be detail oriented, and have good oral and written communication skills.Beyond the classroom: As a health informatics and information management student at WMU, you will have opportunities to conduct real-life hands-on studies that involve workflow analysis, system modeling, service innovations and project implementation provided by regional hospitals, clinical centers and other health care organizations. Before graduation, you will be expected to have an internship with a program sponsor, most of which are health care organizations and health IT consulting firms.The biennial International Conference on Health Information Technology Advancement will provide you with additional exposure to emerging technologies, knowledge and training, and employment opportunities in health care.
