If we are to stay competitive globally, it is imperative that our colleges and universities produce well-trained biologists, geographers, physicists, and engineers. Each of these areas, and many more, such as econometrics, actuarial science, environmental sciences, and statistics are heavily dependent upon mathematical expertise. A strong background of mathematics is essential for entry into these and other fields of interest.
