This introductory-level course is designed as an overview of the theoretical disciplines and professions in sports and recreation management. It is recommended that students majoring in Sports and Recreation Management take this course during their first year.

This course explores the ways in which sport both reflects and shapes culture around the world. It examines the extent to which sport reinforces and/or resists dominant values in cultures around the world.? We will briefly examine the history of modern sport, as well as social theories used to analyze sport.
